Summary: A fusion between Digimon and Temeraire

Taken from 'Travels in the Country of Japan', a collection of
paintings:

Like China, Japan allows for dragons to choose their
handlers and professions, though young dragons are paired with
children and they are often raised together. My hosts in the city of
Edo were the Yagami family, who were honored to have both their
children chosen by draconic 'partners'. Their daughter and her
dragon, breed Shin-riu (which translates to 'divine dragon' when
written in English) agreed to stand for a portrait.

Decided on a fusion between Digimon and Temeraire, which meant taking
the most dragon-looking of the Digimon, Tailmon's Mega/Ultimate/final
form, Holdramon/Mugendramon and Hikari. And probably messing up the
size ratio, since she only appears in a single movie. Of course, then
that meant thinking about what Japan was like in the Temeraire
universe where, like China, it might not be just coming out of an
extended isolation from the West.

I wanted to do a military uniform, but Wikipedia failed me for early
1800s, as that was several relatively peaceful decades before the
Imperial Japanese armed forces formed. So, something that seems to
match (male) samurai garb -- like the Roland women, Hikari will just
have to rock the male fashions.I probably messed up the color usage,
but I wanted to go for green as a contrast to Holydramon's pink and as
an allusion to the British Aerial Corps.

I also wanted to slip some allusion to Tailmon herself, hence the
blue-and-white maneki neko statute in the corner. I think that's my
favorite part of the painting and now I kind of want a Tailmon
beckoning cat of my own.

I love the colors in this! I especially like how you matched the dragon's eyes to Hikari's robes.

The cat luck statue is awesome!

I'm glad you like it. The character was a lucky guess, and I was all 'what if she secretly hates Hikari'? (Not that many people do, but...)

And that you for the comments about the painting. I really like painting, so Yuletart is an opportunity to do it, especially since I don't think you see much painted fanart.

Ah, we really should work out the mailing thing.

Well then, you are a really good guesser!! xD

It is soo true that fanart tends very heavily to be digital. It just makes it that much more delightful to see traditionnal type works! *-*

And thank you ever soo much for offering to mail it to me! I am so excited! Shall I PM you my mailing address? Or do you prefer email?

Awww there is so much friendliness shared between Hikari and Tailmon! I love how well-bonded and comfortable they are with each other. Yay for crossovers!! The green robes contrast so well with Tailmon's pink hide. <3

AND THE LUCKY CAT. HOORAY!

I really like the dragon's eyes. The stare is so steady, and just calm. They just look so close, great painting!

What a great idea to make this crossover work. Your artists notes are fantastic help for those like me less familiar with the fandoms. The choice of man's clothing for Hikari feels fitting, and the colours are great. The tailmon statue in the corner is really cute. ^_^

Thanks. It was an excuse to tell a story when I came up with this. Kind of makes me want to write more about this fusion, actually.

I love Hikari being a military dragon-handler even when she's this young. She'd rock it. And I like how it really looks like she and the dragon are interacting.
