Yuletart will no longer be hosted on LiveJournal. You can follow the fest via the above links or add the RSS feed to your LJ friends list: yuletart_feed.
Unfortunately, there will not be a Yuletart exchange this year. Apologies for not being more prompt with this post, but we've been trying to determine whether we could manage it even if we started a bit late. We know many of you look forward to Yuletart every year, but the plain fact is that running it requires an extraordinary amount of time and energy, neither of which we have available this year.
At this time, we're not certain whether the fest will take place in coming years, as it will depend largely upon factors that are difficult to predict. If we're able to, we'll definitely re-open the fest, but for the time being we just want to thank everyone who has participated in the past five years, and give special thanks to those who were flexible and/or did pinch hits. We appreciate you all and wish you all the best.
Yuletart is officially over! It's been a bit of a bumpy year, but we hope that the experience has been rewarding for all of our artists. The mods offer their sincere apologies for any confusion that may have happened this year—Our main organizer for previous years and total goddess, glockgal, was unable to give much time to Yuletart this year, and our first goal was to have the fest happen at all (It almost didn't!). You know how it is when you sit down at someone else's computer and it feels strange? Well, we were kind of figuring things out as we went along, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we worked to make Yuletart happen.
In the coming year, the mods are going to sit down and evaluate the fest's entire process from top to bottom to try and figure out ways to make things more smooth for everyone next year. Two important changes we know for sure we'll be making will be:
Eliminating the separate "what you want to get" and "what you can give" sections on the sign-up form. Instead, there will be one section for "art you are willing to give and/or receive" and another for any additional fandoms you are willing to give but don't want to get. We had to occasionally make matches this year using the "what you want to get" section due to a lack of more obscure fandoms, and the resulting confusion over that was our biggest issue this year.
Additionally, part of next year's confirmation process will be you listing at least 5 artists from the sign-up post you'd like to give art to. Making matches is a tricky process, and we hope that this combined with the above will both make it easier on the mods and better ensure that you guys are getting the assignments you really want.
We also plan to post more reminders so that the fest doesn't slip your minds. Just as we do every year, we invite you to offer ideas for how you feel the fest can be improved. We can't promise that we'll use every idea offered, but we will definitely take them all under consideration. Please keep in mind, however, that running a fest is hard work and none of us get paid for it! We'd especially like ideas on how to revamp/better the fandom nomination process, as it remains somewhat unwieldy.
Thanks very much to everyone who participated, especially to those of you who submitted art on time and/or were pinch hitters. Fellow mod thoracopagus was a pinch hit star, stepping up to do 3! We only had a handful of pinch hits to make, though, so we count that as a big win. Have a wonderful 2011, and we will see you next fall!
Title: Killjoys Never Dye Gift for:idktbh Artist:roga Rating: PG Fandom: Bandom (My Chemical Romance - Killjoys 'verse) Warnings: (if applicable) Artist's Notes: Many many thanks to my betas ♥. Happy Yuletart! <3 Summary: Killjoys never dye. Except for when their roots are showing.
Title: Eight Killjoys miniatures, two sets, and "Girl," "Bulletproof," "Dream," "Emergency Room," "God's Revolver," "System Failure," "Velocity," and "Keep Running" Gift for:omens Artist:amkave Rating:PG-ish? Fandom: Bandom - My Chemical Romance Warnings: None Artist's Notes: These are actually a series of small paintings (eight) - each are sized 3.5 by 2.5 inches (the black "backdrop" is 3.875 inches square). The killjoys verse is new, and unfolding, but something every good comic book 'verse (or comic book inspired 'verse) can use are trading cards. So I created these for omens. Happy winter holiday of your choice! Summary: The future is bulletproof, the aftermath is secondary. Killjoys, make some noise!
Title: The (adorably) fearsome KARKAT VANTAS Gift for:ocicatsy Artist:wensleydale Rating:: G Fandom: MS Paint Adventures (http://www.mspaintadventures.com/) Characters: Karkat Vantas Warnings: none! Artist notes: I decided to branch out this year and enter the realm of 3-D, since that's SO HOT RIGHT NOW. And I'll be giving this to Ocicatsy in person! PSYCHE! It was originally a DIY Munny (http://sites.kidrobot.com/munnyworld/) that I modded with some Super Sculpey, acrylic paint, and Prismacolor markers. Summary: Even though Karkat believes otherwise, he's an oh-so-cute little foul-mouthed Troll.
Title: Snow Gift for:charpieinuse Artist:kivitaskula Rating: G Fandom: How to Train Your Dragon Warnings: none Artist's Notes: Summary: Toothless wants to play.
Title: A bat in the hand is worth two in the belfry Gift for:astarlia Artist:craterchest Rating:: PG Fandom: Batman Characters: Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn Artist notes: I immediately wanted to do an Ivy/Harley piece, but it took me to almost the week of the deadline to come up with anything I was satisfied or had time to finish. But when I got to only a week left, I decided a nicely colored panel would be fine. Hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas! Summary: Poison Ivy: It seems one of my babies has caught a sneaking bat in our midst. Harley Quinn: I call dibs on his belt! I bet it's got some firecrackers in there or somethin'! Poison Ivy: You may have to wait on that, Harle. My plant's digestive system takes a few hours. Harley Quinn: Heeheehee!!
Title: The Venus Flytrap Gift for:darthsappho Artist:_odella_ Rating: PG-13 Fandom: Batverse Characters: Batman, Poison Ivy Warnings: slight implied nudity Artist's Notes: Merry Yuletart! I hope you enjoy this, I would be happy to send you a larger version if you like after the reveal is up. :)
