Art for Nightambre!

Title: Perfect Morning
Gift for: nightambre
Artist: beccastareyes
Rating: G
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Warnings: None
Artist's Notes: My desktop computer decided mid-November to die, killing any plans I had to do this via computer-colored art. So I broke out the markers. I kind of wished I changed the color scheme a bit, but I was pleased at drawing the background.
Summary: A drawing of Izumi, Sig and the Elrics some time while they were studying with her (post-island).

Thank you. I don't use markers that often, but usually when I want to make things bright and cheery.

Don't know the fandom, but this is cuteness personified.

Hah! How remarkably...normal and mundane. >D And I mean that in a good way, esp. considering this group. And I think taht's what I like best about this. Thank you a lot, mystery artist!

You're welcome. I like doing little slice of life things, especially since it's kind of part of Izumi's character. (She might be a top-notch alchemist and able to wrestle a bear, but she's also happiest being the wife of a butcher in a small town.)

The Elrics are so cute and tiny, and I love Izumi and Sig at the table.

I really like this--so much detail, and so homey, and so bright and cheerful. I really love the expression on the boy drying the dishes.

Awwwwww this is such a fun family moment.
You did a great job with the markers, especially on the counter and the curtians. It's great.

Thanks. One of the things I like about Fullmetal Alchemist is that there's this sense of family being important, but also what you make of it. Ed and Al (the Elric boys) lose their mother and their dad has gone missing, and not only do they have their best friend and her grandma (their neighbors) looking out for them, but also manage to persuade Izumi to take them in as students because she had lost her own kid (and the ability to have kids). (For that matter, the series plot, rather than the background above, is driven by Ed and Al trying to help one another.)

Yeah. One thing I didn't want to do was to use a lot of flat colors. I wanted a lot of texture to draw the eye, but not enough to be distracting.

Heeee I love idyllic domestic moments, and this is so cute! The kid using the stool to wash the dishes! Love that the markers give the scene a very bright and cheery look, it's wonderful.

Thank you. I liked how the markers turned out, too.

The stool was a bit of an inside joke. Ed (the kid drying) has a complex about his height in the series, and Al (the kid washing) ends up taller than him*, despite being the younger brother. But, right now, Al should be a bit shorter than Ed, so he needs the stool.

* Sort of. Al ends up having his soul sealed into a very large suit of armor after an accident that destroys his body.

Hee, the boys at the sink are too cute, and the detail in the kitchen is so much fun to explore. :D

Thanks. I try to push myself to do backgrounds, since my normal inclination is to half-ass it. Kitchens are fun, since they look more real when they have details like stuff on the counter. (It was a bit hard, since the canon is set sometime in the equivalent of the early 1900s, with some exceptions, so I wasn't sure if the sink would be timeline appropriate.)

I think the markers give it a certain vibrant and lively charm! Especially on the outfit of the kid standing on the step-stool -- the variations in his clothes are really impressive.
